For my recent manicure, I visited my favorite nail artist in Chicago, AstroWifey. She’s insanely talented and can create anything from a spitting image of your dog to a Matisse masterpiece. Nail art has been a big trend for the past few years, and the latest accoutrement is the layering of 3D elements and textured finishes. For my nail art, I was inspired by the graphic prints of designer Clover Canyon. AstroWifey googled an image from the collection and used it as her guide to freeform this one-of-a-kind, no-chip manicure. No two nails are alike, yet I love how each finger plays off the other. Where one design has a horizontal motif, the corresponding is vertical. The final step was the careful application of nail adornments including individual flecks of gold glitter, foil and pyramid-like squares. Every step of the hour-and-a-half-long process was surprisingly peaceful and relaxing. Apparently some clients have been known to fall asleep in their chair! Here’s a glimpse of the making of my manicure. .
