New York Fashion Week wrapped last month, giving us a peek at what to expect this fall. However, there was one makeup look that literally caught our eyes, and we’re not willing to wait until next season to sample it. Let’s call this look “the rebellious teenager to the smoky eye.” It’s a bit brighter and a bit messier than the typical smoky eye, and it debuted at the Diane von Furstenberg show. The key to pulling this off is to make your shadow look creasy to create an effortless vibe. We’ve found that an oily crayon shadow, like this one from NYX, works best to give you that hopelessly chic “I don’t care” Parisian look that we’ve been trying to nail for decades. If you’re into palettes, check out the Urban Decay Naked Palette and the Maybelline The Nudes palette. As for color, we’ve found that playing with copper and bronze shades, instead of more intense charcoal and black, has its perks. These softer hues are less messy and there are more color options to choose from to compliment all skin tones. For darker complexions, try a golden bronze; olive skin and medium toned complexions should shoot for a dusty mauve; lighter complexions should try dark brown with reddish tints.

If you go with a powder shadow, use a rounded brush on the lid to sweep one color all over. Then switch to a blending brush to blend a darker color into the crease (I recommend Real Techniques brushes, they come with tutorials!). Dab a smudge of brown eyeliner on your water line, and as always, top off with mascara. Complete your make-up routine as normal, and you’ll be wrap dress and runway ready in no time.
