Pregnancy has its charms. Kettle chips never tasted so good, my husband treats me to foot massages galore, and according to those around me, I have a “glow.” I can’t take credit for my crazy cravings or caring husband, but I do have something to do with my skin’s newfound glow. With such precious cargo in my belly, I’ve shelved the retinols and salicylic acids and delved into natural skincare formulas that are free of parabens, alcohol and other chemical offenders. Over the past 6 months, I’ve tried a bunch of products like the Tata Harper line I introduced you to awhile back. For the most part, I really like what I’ve found. Here’s what I’m loving right now.

Skin by Monica Olsen cleanserSkin by Monica Olsen Restore MSM Facial Cleanser I’ve found that some natural face washes don’t really remove dirt and makeup. This one actually works and has won itself a new fan — my hubby. We both like that it’s incredibly hydrating, has a lighter-than-honey consistency and a little goes a long way.

Melvita moisturizerMelvita Apicosma Moisturizing Cream It’s nice to have a go-to moisturizer like this one. I use it morning and night and can count on it to relieve tightness without causing any irritating side effects. The company was founded by a French beekeeper, so it makes sense the formula, which is organically certified, contains royal jelly and honey along with other nourishing ingredients like Aloe vera and rose hip oil.

Omorovicza cleanserOmorovicza Thermal Cleansing Balm Little things, like a bright nail polish color, make me happy. So does this cleanser. I use it when I want to treat myself. It smells like a spa and is made with minerals, extracted from hot springs in Budapest, that offer loads of skin benefits like firming, softening and repairing. I just rub the thick, creamy texture onto my skin and rinse off with a damp washcloth.

The Body ShopThe Body Shop Nutriganics and Natrulift Skincare Collections
I was happy to find out that a mainstream retailer like The Body Shop was launching two natural skincare lines. Natrulift contains organic pomegranate to firm skin while Nutriganics has earned itself the same Ecocert certification as Melvita, proving that all of the ingredients and packaging are organic and ecological. That all sounded good, but I wasn’t completely sold until I attended the launch event and actually got to experience the products.

Celebrity esthetician Molly Walsh (she gives facials to Jim Carrey and Brook Shields!) treated me to my own mini facial using products from the lines and shared her tips that of course I’m passing on to you. Two of my favorites:

1. “Don’t dry your skin in between steps like cleansing and moisturizing. That’s because skin is like a sponge and will absorb the products best if the formulas are applied when skin is still damp.”

2. “Instead of rinsing off your cleanser by splashing it with water, take a damp wash cloth and use slight pressure to remove the face wash. This action actually gives your skin a daily mild exfoliation so there’s no need to incorporate an additional exfoliating product into your skincare routine.
