I’ve been a run-of-the-mill, medium-tone, monochrome brunette my whole life. Summer has inspired me to go lighter, but since I don’t go in the sun I gave the natural way a scoot and took the peroxide route. I love my highlights, but I don’t love how stripped and brittle the bleach has made my hair. I’ve been slathering on masks for a couple of months. Here are a few that are nursing my locks back to health:
Carol’s Daughter Monoi Repairing Hair Mask ($29)
The super natural line is generally geared toward ethnic hair-types, however this mask works wonders on every texture. It’s star ingredient, Monoi oil, adds rich moisture and shine to over-processed strands. It also has an incredible musky, floral smell that lingers for days.
Matrix Biolage Conditioning Balm ($19.99)
The super thick cream mends scraggly ends like nobody’s business. I massage it in from mid-shaft to tip and after a few minutes, hair is incredibly supple and silky. It comes in a squeeze tube, so you don’t have to worry about water dripping into the usual tub packaging that masks come in. The balm smells fresh and a little dollop goes a long way.
Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Moist Deeeeep Conditioner ($3.99)
Some of the best four bucks I’ve ever spent. I slather on large amounts of the coconut-scented mask nearly ever shower. Typically, I covet expensive products and only use them if I absolutely must, but this stuff is so cheap that I use it as my regular conditioner. It injects bounce and shine back into locks in three minutes, as the bottle promises.
