It’s that time of year when we start thinking about "back to school." With that comes the desire to clear out the old to make room for the new. It used to require a trip to the consigment shop or a garage sale to make a few bucks off your possessions. The latest trend — online consignment — requires the least amount of legwork and gets your goods in front of the most amount of eyeballs so you can earn the biggest payday.

These websites are just as pretty and sophisticated as off-the-rack retail sites, but they sell gently used items, many of which are designer, at a discount. Two to know about are thredUP and Poshmark. Here’s the lowdown:

thredUP: I’m not one who looks forward to cleaning out her closet, but thredUP makes the process easy. You just go to the website and order a clean out bag (for free). You fill it with the clothes and accessories you no longer want, and they do the rest of the work for you. Whatever doesn’t sell and that you didn’t request to be returned to you, gets donated to charity. And whatever does can be redeemed as cash or as a shopping credit to shop the site. Their impressive inventory ranges from DVF to Zara.

Poshmark: If you ever saw a stylish girl walk by and wished you could have her wardrobe, now you can literally shop it. Poshmark allows you to create a profile so you can list and sell your own items and shop other people’s "closets" throughout the U.S.

With Back To School in mind, here are some of my fave finds on thredUP for kids.
