Last night, as I was flipping between Miss Universe (ever since I was little, my mom and I have watched together, and we still keep up this tradition) and the SAG Awards, I was wowed by two things. 1. The pageant contestants’ bodies. Each one was as slinky as the next. If you’re wondering their secrets, so am I. 2. Emma Stone’s red lip. While the headlines are talking about how Naomi Watts almost wiped out on stage after tripping on her co-star’s train, I couldn’t take my eyes off Emma’s lips. The shape was perfectly pronounced with a defined  "v" in the cupid’s bow, and the color was a shocking, sharp red. I’ve worn and seen a lot of red lips. Usually they all blend together. This one was memorable, and one that I’m for sure going to try and would even say is worthy of a bride. I’ve got to give credit to her makeup artist Rachel Goodwin. You’d probably think she layered on like 3 different expensive lipstick colors to create this graphic red. Nope. It’s one shade, and you can find it at the drugstore for $7! The actress has a contract with Revlon, and that’s exactly what she wore on her lips: Revlon HD Ultra Lip Shine in Gladiolus. Goodwin choose this lipstick because "it wasn’t glossy, but wasn’t matte — it had a creamy, luxe feeling." Before applying the color, Goodwin lined Emma’s mouth with Revlon Color Stay Lip Liner in Red.

For the rest of Emma’s face, Goodwin used Chanel skincare and makeup. The inspiration was the Helmut Newton woman of the late ‘70s. "I wanted that sense of being empowered and owning it. I wanted the look to feel really iconic, with a nod to a French editorial feel," says the makeup artist.

Goodwin shared the exact products and techniques used so you can recreate Emma’s makeup look at home:

SKINCARE
To start, I applied CHANEL Hydra Beauty Micro Sérum to Emma’s skin and let it settle in for 20 minutes before adding makeup.

FACE
I used a really sheer foundation, CHANEL Vitalumière Aqua Ultra Light Skin Perfecting Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in 10 Beige, so her complexion would be incredibly fresh and dewy, not too done. I used a little CHANEL Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in N°20 under the cheekbones, adding dimension without adding color.

EYES
I emphasized Emma’s brows to make them quite strong. Her eye look was really glossy and bronze, without any hard lines. To start that type of look, you really need a powder or a matte shadow underneath, like CHANEL Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in N°10. I used my fingers to apply CHANEL Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Mirage, then added Revlon Color Stay Liquid Eye Pen in black very lightly to line the outer edges of her eyes and finished with CHANEL Le Volume de Chanel Mascara in Noir.

P.S. All of our years watching pageants paid off in bragging rights. My mom and I got it right! We picked Miss Colombia to win the crown and Miss USA to be first runner up. What traditions do you have with your mom?
